Special Tips and Guidelines for Doing Your Laundry

Everybody seems to think that doing your laundry is a simple, very easy process that can be performed by anyone.  This could not be farther from the truth.  Those who are truly inexperienced in laundry and fabric care can certainly find themselves making very costly mistakes.  Though it appears to be a rather simplistic task, there is much that should go into doing your laundry properly.

Begin by carefully reading the label that is on your individual garments.  These care labels contain very important information about the proper care and treatment of your clothing.  All those items of clothing that are sold in the US must include a garment care label, which makes it quite easy for the consumer to acquaint themselves with the appropriate care and cleaning procedures for the article of clothing.

·       Always be certain that you separate your clothes to be laundered by colors.  You do not want to wash colored clothes and white clothes together.  When you separate your clothes by colors you prevent any bleeding from occurring from the dark colored clothes to the clothes that are lighter in color.  You should have three separate piles of clothes before you set out to launder them – whites, lighter colors, and darker colors.

·       Once you have separated your clothes by color, you then want to separate them further by their fabrics.   Be certain to wash those marked as delicates separately. 

·       Always check your pockets, especially for such items as markers and ink pens.  These items can desperately ruin your clothes since they are capable of creating permanent stains on all items of clothing contained within that wash load. 

·       Be certain not to overfill your washer.  You want your clothes to be able to spin about freely and allow the agitation process to clean them thoroughly.  If you over stuff your washer, your clothes are apt not to come out as clean.  In addition, overstuffing your dryer will require you to set the drying timer to greater time spans and will also require a great deal more of energy in order to dry your clothes efficiently and effectively.

·       Finally, once your clothes have finished drying, remove them from the dryer right away, rather than allowing them to sit in the dryer for long periods of time.  Removing them promptly will avoid excessive wrinkling.
