7 Tips for Holiday Guest Room Prep
1) Clean Sheets
It would seem to go without saying, but the first step on any guestroom preparation lists is always making sure to dress the bed fresh, new, crisply clean sheets. While you’re at it, always plan to place a spare set in a clearly accessible place for your guests. Accidents of all kinds happen, and there’s no better way to prevent your guest from unecessary embarassment
2) Clean Comforter(s)
Give yourself a deadline of 30 days prior to your guests’ visit to have all guest bedroom comforters cleaned. This includes other bed dressing accessories such as any bedskirts or dust ruffles, or removable headboard covers.
3) Clean Blankets
Be sure to provide a separate, freshly cleaned, cozy blanket in each guest bedroom, in addition to any blankets you have used to make up the bed. Also, be sure all blankets in gathering rooms, such as the living room, family room, media room or great room, have been freshly cleaned as well.
4) Accent Pillows
Some pillows may be machine washed, but as a general rule of thumb, decorative accent pillows must be dry cleaned. Never forgo freshly cleaning all guestroom pillows. It is very important that the pillows your guest may choose to rest their face upon during a nap be safely sanitized.
5) Accent Rugs
Any accent rugs in all guestrooms and guest bathrooms should be cleaned in preparation for your guests’ arrival.
6) Curtains or Drapes.
Over time, curtains and drapes gather quite a bit of dust. Sometimes, this dust mixes with other agents in the atmosphere, such as cooking oil and/or pet hair. This creates a more stubborn grime that can saturate curtains, and may also pose a serious health issue for visitors. Always check curtains and drapes about a month in advance of their arrival, to provide ample time for removal, professional cleaning and reinstallation.
7) Guest Robe
Many hosts love to provide a warm, cozy robe in a thick terry cloth as a special treat to make guests feel at home. If you choose to do this, it is imperative not only that the guest robe be spotless, it should also bear a freshly laundered or dry cleaned appearance. For warmer weather guests, many prefer a robe in lighter weight silk or linen. Please remember these are delicate fibers that must be professionally cleaned.
