Holiday Party Season
It’s that time again: Holiday Party Season! For many Middle Tennesseans, that means getting dressed up in their finest garments for a steady stream of parties and special events. Caring for these expensive garments requires extra care. We’ve put together this list of 7 Tips for Formal Wear Care to help you protect your dazzling wardrobe investments!

7 Tips for Formal Wear Care

1)  ACCESSORIZE WISELY
  • Choose jewelry, handbags, watches, and other accessories with caution, being careful to .avoid anything with rough edges.

2)  APPLY MAKEUP & COLOGNE PRIOR
  • When preparing for a special event, all perfume, cologne, deodorant, makeup and hair products should be applied well in advance of dressing. Ensure they are completely dry or well set before dressing in order to avoid damaging delicate fabrics.

3)  PACK A BAG
  • Before you leave for the event, tuck a small, sealable bag, such as a zip sandwich bag,  inside your purse to collect any beaded or other ornamentation that falls off during wear. Most  professional dry cleaners have a repair department that can reattach the ornamentation to your garment when you drop it off  for cleaning.

4)  BLOT STAINS ON SHEERS
  • Always blot, never rub organzas and other sheer fabrics. Not only do you run the risk of setting in the stain, rubbing can also cause damage to the delicate fibers of the fabric.

5)  SHAKE SPILLS OFF PILES
  • Immediately shake spilled liquid off the surface of any fabric with a pile, such as velvet, rather than blotting. If you act quickly, you can often absorb much of the stain before it settles into the longer fibers of the fabric pile, which can spill excess off of fabric before it sets in, then allow to dry.

6)  TAKE NOTE
  • Pay attention to stains to your garment, and note the source of each stain. This will help your professional cleaner gain the best success in removing all stains.

7)  ASAP
  • Be sure to follow up with professional dry cleaning as quickly as possible following your event in order to prevent stains from setting in permanently.
