The Big Transition
Now that summer’s officially over, it’s time to make the big transition into winter coat and sweater season. We love it too! There’s nothing better than the comfort of bundling yourself in layer after layer of your favorite soft, thick, snuggly cottons, wools, silk blends and leathers. It’s almost like Christmas came early! Check out our top 5 Tips for Cold Weather Wardrobe Preparation to help you get all your seasonal favorites ready for whatever lies ahead!
5 Tips for Cold Weather Wardrobe Preparation
1) Inspect All Knits
Look for any signs of snags, runs or moth holes, particularly in wools and cashmeres. Your local dry cleaner will be able to repair many issues, especially among ribbed knit garments.
2) Check for Bug Remnants
Always keep a keen eye out for tell-tale signs of insect presence. Even if you haven’t found holes in your clothing, damaging bugs may still be present and pose a serious threat to your wardrobe. Watch for larvae shells, silky tubes, casings, cocoons or body parts in your drawers, bins and other garment storage areas. If signs of an infestation are discovered, the best way to prevent major damage from developing throughout your wardrobe is to take everything in the area of insect exposure to your trusted dry cleaner.
3) Check for Pilling
This is an excellent time to check your knit garment for any pilling. These can be removed easily with the careful use of a fabric shaver or pumice sweater stone.
4) Re-Puff Your Coats
Have your puffy down coats lost their natural fullness? Put the puff back in by simply hanging them in the bathroom during a hot shower. Need a faster solution? Toss them in the dryer with two or three clean tennis balls. Does the trick every time!
5) De-Mustify
Musty smells happen, and they can be stubborn. What’s the fastest way to de-mustify your seasonal wardrobe? Why, your friendly local dry cleaner, of course. There are other products specially made to help with varying levels of success, such as bamboo or charcoal sachets and deodorizing sprays.
6) Waterproof Leathers
Those leather garments, shoes and boots can really take a beating with the wet and salty conditions ahead. Be sure to thoroughly waterproof your seasonal leather gear using recommended products for best results this season – and beyond.
