Proper Care and Maintenance of your Wool Coats

One of the first important steps to take in administering appropriate care to your wool coats and garments is that of brushing them with a soft suede brush or even a lint brush, if you prefer.  This cleans the surface of your garment and should be performed thoroughly at the end of the season and well before storing your items away.

Once you have brushed your wool garments thoroughly you will then want to hang them on a sturdy hanger that can accommodate the weight of your coat or other wool garments.  Typically, we would recommend a wooden hanger or otherwise a broad, strong plastic hanger will do.  Once you have zipped the plastic bag you can then hang it in a comfortable spot in your closet, typically well in the back, where it can keep safe until the next cold weather season arrives. This will prevent moths and any other insects from getting at your wool coats and garments and destroying them.  If you do not have satisfactory storage for your wool items then we can store them here at our facility for you and will even enclose cedar chips in the garment bag to keep them safe, fresh and swelling clean.

If your wool coat or garment has fallen victim to spills of any type, then rest assured our qualified team of professionals are readily available to take care of all your needs.  It is important to understand that wool coats or wool garments should be blotted with an absorbent cloth or specialized paper towel in order to avoid any setting stains.  It is very important that spills are blotted and not rubbed since rubbing can cause the spilled substance to seep into the wool fabric and become saturated.  With wine, coffee or ink spills, however, we highly recommend you do not attempt to resolve these issues on your own, but rather rely upon our clothing professionals to administer proper care and treatment.   We are equipped to perform whatever services are needed while maintaining the shape, condition and overall integrity of your wool garments.
