Tips to Remove Pet Hair from Fabrics, Clothes and Furniture

Have you ever found yourself heading out the door in the morning on your way to work only to notice that your black pants are covered in dog hair?  Or maybe found yourself dropping on the sofa at the end of a hectic work day only to notice dog hair all over your back and legs when you stand up?  If you answered yes to either then be sure to read on.  Pet hair can certainly put a damper on your professional office look, not to mention it can cause a good deal of challenges to allergy sufferers.  With that said, the professionals here at Jimmy’s Cleaners and Alterations want to offer you some simple but effective tips on how to remove pet hair from your clothes, fabrics, and even your furniture.

Simple Techniques to Help Remove Pet Hair

Technique #1:  A Lint Roller – this is a pretty simple and practical way for removing pet hair.  A fresh scented lint roller when brushed across your clothes, your rugs or your sofa in a downward motion, can easily remove annoying pet hair.  The roller picks up a good deal of hair quickly and makes for a more professional look when running out the door.

Technique #2:  The Use of Vinegar – Vinegar actually helps to relax and soften the fibers in fabric, so when you wash your favorite clothes covered in pet hair, simply add a half cup of a white distilled vinegar to your rinse cycle.  You’ll be pleasantly surprised at how effective it really is.

Technique #3:   The Use of Moisture – There are a couple of ways that you can use moisture to benefit your hair covered fabrics and clothes.  Water typically adds weight to pet hair and, as a result, the hair does not stick to clothes or fabrics.  To accomplish this, start by putting on a pair or rubber gloves, dip your hands in a sink filled with water, and then shake off any excess water.  Next, rub your hair covered clothes or fabrics with the rubber gloves and watch the balls of dog and pet hair that you accumulate.  It’s quick, it’s easy and it’s effective.

Another way of using moisture is to take a damp sponge and rub it across the fabrics.  When you wipe the fabrics with the damp sponge you will collect the layers of pet hair easily.  Further, you can spray your clothes or fabrics with a slight bit of a water and fabric softener mixture and then use a cloth or sponge to wipe the hair away.

Technique #4:  Dry Cleaning – Here at Jimmy’s Cleaners and Alterations, we give favor to this technique.  Dry cleaning is the best all round technique and indeed the most efficient way to remove dog and pet hair from your clothes and various other fabrics and furniture.  Not only will our state of the art dry cleaning techniques remove the pet hair, but it will also remove dander as well.  Dander, as we all know, is a common allergen that affects a lot of people.  With our quality dry cleaning you take care of two birds with one stone – removing the pet hair and the harmful dander as well.
