Are you counting down with delighted children everywhere? The pools are about to open, and summer swimming season is just around the corner. Whether you’re one who lives at the pool, or only visit once in awhile, caring for swimwear requires a few extra steps.
SUNSCREEN
Sunscreens do an excellent job of protecting our skin, but they can permanently stain swimwear, particularly the oil-based varieties. Whenever possible, apply sunscreen before slipping into your swimming suit, and allow to fully dry first.
ROUGH SURFACES
Many pool decks are made of concrete, and other rough surfaces than can snag and damage your suit. Always be mindful of where you are sitting. If you choose to sit directly on rough concrete, always place a towel down first.
CHLORINE
Notice how dry your skin tends to feel after you leave a chlorine pool? Chlorine is a corrosive agent that can break down the fibers in your swimsuit prematurely, and rob it of its elasticity. Always be sure to remove and thoroughly rinse your suit as soon as possible after leaving a chlorine pool, allowing the water to wash out the damaging chemical.
