There’s just something about the spring and summer sun that makes us want to celebrate! For many of us, that means putting on bright, cheery, happy-looking garments. But bright colored clothing can be hard to care for. So what can you do to help extend the life of your favorite, fun and cheery brights?
First Things First:
Check the care labels. That is always your best guide to effective garment care.
Secondly:
Also check the garment for colorfastness. This may or may not be in the care label. If you suspect a garment was made with dyes that may run, do a quick spot check in the sink. Caution is the best way to prevent unnecessarily ruining your other favorite wardrobe pieces.
Third:
Be aware that warm weather wear brings a couple of new factors into play that will impact the longevity of your clothing, namely perspiration and body oils. In addition, the oils from any sunscreen you wear, or pest repellants also have the ability to do serious damage to your clothing. Pay attention to any stains you recognize, and be sure to have the garment cleaned as soon as possible.
Finally:
Whatever you do, do not make the mistake of having your garments cleaned too infrequently. Remember, dry cleaning is much physically gentler on your clothing, and is a great way to prolong the life of your wardrobe. It will remove the spring and summer soils and stains left on your clothing before they permanently set in.
