Grass stains on fabrics, garments, canvas footwear, leather footwear and even outdoor picnic throw blankets are all a common occurrence when engaging in outdoor summer fun. From backyard parties and hiking trails to outdoor sports and backyard gardening, there is a multitude of summer activities that can present with grass stains that simply need to be removed. Fresh stains can be removed fairly easily. They can certainly be tricky, but that does not mean they cannot be easily removed.

Steps to Take to Remove Fresh Grass Stains

For starters, a grass stain can be removed by simply washing the garment, the blanket or the footwear as per its provided everyday care instructions. This is especially true if the stain is a brand-new fresh stain and not one that has been sitting for any grave length of time.

Let’s go over the steps to take when removing fresh stains. You will need to treat the garment with an enzymatic stain removal product before laundering the garment. In addition to the stain treatment product, you will need some laundry detergent and perhaps a laundry brush.

  • Brush away any solid substance – Before you apply the stain treatment product be sure to brush away any dried mud, dirt, grass or any other particles with a laundry brush. If it is a larger blanket that has been stained you can simply shake the blanket to remove any excess particles from the surface.
  • Apply the enzymatic stain removal product – Before tossing any stained item in the wash always apply the stain removal product to the stained area. Using your laundry brush, work the stain removal product into the existing stain so that it fully penetrates the fabric allowing the stain remover to start breaking down the stubborn stain.
  • Perform a usual wash – Using your washing machine’s regular cycle and your favorite laundry detergent, wash the treated garment, fabric or other item in cold water. If the typical care instructions for the item indicates that it can be washed in warm or hot water, then go ahead and wash your item in the appropriate water temperature.
  • Before you dry the item, be sure the stain is gone – Once you have treated a grass stain and laundered the item, be sure to check that the stain has been completely removed before tossing the item into the dryer. If the stain has not been fully removed and you dry it in the dryer, the heat will cause the stain to set in and it will not be able to be removed thereafter.
