Here at Jimmy’s Cleaners and Alterations, our highly reputable presence in the marketplace is dependent upon our high-quality work performance and services. With that said, we thought we would share with our valued clients some very simple but practical facts about dry cleaning that we feel are useful for everyone to know. We hope you find this information both useful and informative for you and your family.
SIMPLE AND PRACTICAL FACTS
- Not every type of stain can actually be removed – Being able to successfully remove a stain from garments or fabrics is highly dependent upon the nature and source of the actual stain as well as the fabric type and most importantly how colorfast the dye is. Here at Jimmy’s Cleaners our team of professionals is highly skilled and trained to not only identify the stains themselves, but also in identifying fabrics and determining the best protocol and technique for removing the stains. With all that said, it is important to know that stains, such as dried paint or ink that has set into the fabric having been exposed to a home cleaning process first, are more than likely impossible to be removed from the fabric.
- Most garments, including shirts can definitely shrink – If the material of a garment has not been properly preshrunk or even if a small section of a garment has not gone through a proper stabilizing process during its manufacture, then the chances are likely that the garment can shrink. It is estimated that anywhere between 2 to 3 percent shrinkage is not only possible but practical as well.
- The care labels on clothing items don’t always tell the truth – Manufacturers of garments are required to apply labels that present with reasonable care instructions for the buyer. However, the Federal Trade Commission’s Care Label Rule does not require manufacturers to perform testing before they apply care labels to garments. Additionally, they are not required to provide any specific instructions for the overall care of fabrics. With that said, typically manufacturers do not test garments in advance of applying care labels to them.
- Garments that are dry cleaned do not wear out faster than those that are not – The Dry Cleaning and Laundry Institute has never set forth any facts indicating that dry cleaning processes minimize the lifespan of fabrics or wear them out at all. However, it has been proven that for those garments that are marked “dry clean only” and are not professionally cleaned on a routine basis, then indeed the lifespan of the garment can be reduced.
