Guide to Summer Stains
Summer can seem like an endless parade of celebrations, packed with a wide variety of seasonal party food favorites. But as you know, the combination of warm temperatures and the tendency to eat as you stroll, frequently cause your favorite summer favorite foods to end up missing your mouth, and making a mess of your clothes.
Favorites like spicy Italian sausage with grilled onions, peppers and marinara sauce; rich fried funnel cakes finished with a generous dusting of powdered sugar; greasy delicious pizza; sweet, drippy ice cream cones brightly colored popsicles, all can spell disaster for your wardrobe. But there’s an even bigger problem: while some of these stains can be easy to remove yourself with basic home remedies, those same remedies will cause other stains in other fabrics to become permanently set, ruining your go-to summer frocks.
GUIDE TO SUMMER STAINS – We recommend dry cleaning for the following summer stains. Here’s why:
Popsicles – Frequently contain a food dye which can prove disastrous to your clothing.
Chocolate – Found in ice cream and a variety of other summer treats can be especially hard to remove and if not done properly, will stain.
Grease stains – Water can cause grease from french fries, pizza, funnel cakes, etc, to set.
Ketchup & Mustard – Can be very damaging for a fabric, as both contain strong natural elements which can act as dyes. Improper laundering will set a stain permanently.
Alcoholic Beverages – Silk or acetate may be damaged by alcohol. It can also disturb dyes.
Lemonade – Lemon juice contains an acid that may also cause some dyes to change color.
Candy Apples – If the apple contains a lot of red dye, washing may make it worse. Always blot, never rub, or you will likely spread the stained area.
