Well, summer is behind us and fall is finally here. With that said, it’s time to give attention to all those summer garments and store them away until next year is upon us. With that said, summer heat and perspiration surely go hand in hand and together can wreak a good deal of havoc on your favorite garments, which is why we want to share some important facts about deodorant stains and how to avoid them.
Deodorants and anti-perspirants contain a wide range of chemicals that when mixed with your body’s perspiration can weaken, stain and absolutely ruin your clothes. Chemicals such as alcohol, aluminum chloride and fragrances are the very culprits we are talking about. Fabrics, including cottons, rayon, linens and other synthetic blends are very susceptible to any kind of stains and especially susceptible to damage that is caused by high levels of aluminum chloride and deodorant stains.
Our experts highly suggest that if you give favor to a deodorant that has high levels of aluminum chloride, fragrances or alcohol and don’t want your favorite garments to become discolored or damaged, then switch to a product that has a neutral PH and low aluminum content. In addition, we recommend you allow your skin to dry completely before you put on your deodorant and then allow that deodorant to dry completely before you put your garments on. If you tend to wear very expensive tops or shirts you may want to get in the habit of wearing an undershirt or camisole to protect your shirts from deodorant stains and other damage. It is important you know that the chemical reaction caused by your antiperspirant or deodorant can cause holes in your shirts, by degrading the fibers and causing them to dissolve altogether. Once this damage occurs, there is no process out there that can restore the garments to a healthy condition.
In addition, we highly recommend that you clean your clothes as soon as possible after wearing them. Also, if you have soiled garments that need to make their way over to the cleaners never leave them in a hot car. The heat can and will set any stains that are on the soiled garments making the task of cleaning them a whole lot more difficult.
